Job Purpose / Summary:

The Shift Supervisor, Laboratory, is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure work environment for the laboratory team. They supervise the activities of the team, assign tasks based on plant load, and provide leadership and technical guidance. The Supervisor is also responsible for maintaining up-to-date Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), executing and reporting accurate analysis, reviewing and checking results, and facilitating smooth handover between shifts. Additionally, the Supervisor participates in performance appraisals, supports the implementation of work processes, assists in equipment troubleshooting and decision-making, and maintains a safe work environment for the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to NAMA policies, Safety, Health, and Environment Management System procedures, and comply with quality procedures and NAMA IMS certified standards.
  • Coordinate and prioritize sample analysis based on criticality and internal customer needs.
  • Manage and coordinate the analysis of samples, ensuring timely execution and reporting.
  • Monitor work quality, provide technical guidance, and ensure correct execution of analysis.
  • Maintain shift log and facilitate communication within and between shifts.
  • Report irregularities and significant problems related to facility, equipment, methods, and materials.
  • Support the assessment of technical qualifications, perform gap analysis, and identify training needs of laboratory personnel.
  • Promote NAMA HSE guidelines, procedures, and safety culture.
  • Ensure availability of chemicals, consumables, and miscellaneous items through proper planning and withdrawal from stores.
  • Maintain records of COAs for raw materials/products and support third-party auditing.
  • Coordinate calibration activities and ensure reliable results for analytical systems.
  • Support troubleshooting activities and perform internal or external analysis as directed.
  • Ensure laboratory housekeeping, safety, and adherence to EHS activities during shifts.
  • Prepare and maintain the shift schedule as directed by the Laboratory Superintendent.
  • Support the Lab Superintendent in planning, organizing, maintaining, and inventorying reagents, chemicals, spares, and consumables.
  • Alert the operations team if critical samples show deviation for immediate action.
  • Assist in preparing data for budget preparation, monthly reports, and internal rejection reports.
  • Ensure compliance with the Work Permit Procedure and follow proper safety protocols.
  • Maintain clear identification labels for reagents and equipment, ensuring validity and revalidation before expiry.
  • Raise notifications in the SAP system for internal support services and encourage the team to report incidents.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a laboratory setting and leadership roles in a large Gas, Petrochemical, Polymer, and Chloro Alkali Electrolysis Process.

Job Skills / Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of various analytical techniques used in petrochemical plant laboratories.
  • Expertise in laboratory safety procedures and managing hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of quality control principles and experience with quality management systems.
  • Familiarity with process control systems and instrumentation used in a petrochemical plant.
  • Experience in troubleshooting equipment and identifying the root cause of issues.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards for laboratory operations.
  • Knowledge of chemical reactions and chemical engineering principles.
  • Experience with data analysis and interpretation, including statistical analysis and data visualization.
  • Understanding of process optimization and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently with established procedures and practices.
